Wild Kratts Birthday Party: Part 1 (Invitations & Discs) from This post includes free printable creature power discs that maximize print space and include authentic colors and images from the show. It also includes discs made just for fun as well as blank discs so you can make your own.

My daughter has been obsessed with the Wild Kratts for two years now.  I wholeheartedly support the obsession.  Those Kratt brothers are changing how an entire generation and their parents view wildlife conservation.  And let me tell you, it’s so cute to hear a 3 1/2-year-old spout off a bunch of college-level animal facts to you.  If you aren’t familiar with the show, the Wild Kratts teach children (and adults) everything there is to know about certain animals in a show that is both live-action and animated.  During the cartoon portion of the show, the Kratt brothers inevitably go on an adventure that involves saving an animal from one of the animal-expoiting bad guys.  They do this by turning into animals via Aviva’s amazing creature power discs (that give the brothers the animal’s many creature powers).

In this first part of my Wild Kratts birthday party adventure, I’m going to share the invitations and creature power discs we used (as well as some printable discs I’ve created for you).

PBS Wild Kratts Invitation used for daughter's birthday party from

I did not design my own invitations. I sometimes do, but not this time. Instead, I saved time and energy for other elements of the party and used perfectly acceptable invitations from the parents section of the website. Thanks to this party, I now know that PBS is a great source for printables and party ideas. You may find these Wild Kratts invitations here.

My rule for children’s birthday parties is to hand them out 2 weeks ahead of time.  This gives your guests enough time to plan for the party, but not so much that they forget about it.  Once printed and cut, you will need to fill these out, which can take longer than you expect (especially if inviting the entire class). After you’ve figured out your party details, give yourself a solid hour or an evening in front of your favorite shows to finish these before they’re ready.  Also, make sure you have enough ink in your printer before starting any print job.  Even better, print these at a print shop along with the creature power discs and any other printables for the party.  I use Staples for both quality and price (I swear they’re not paying me to say this).

These were a piece of cake, and no real lessons were learned.  I suppose I could warn you that your hand will hurt if you decide to invite the entire class, and you may need to take breaks.  Also, unless you plan to use erasable ink, figure out exactly what you want to write an essay before starting them.

Creature Power Discs

I spent so many hours just searching for the perfect power discs.  I wanted to have a nice variety of animals, including my daughter’s favorites of course.  I also hoped to find that someone had squeezed as many to a page as possible to save on printing costs.  Mostly, however, the perfectionist in me really wanted each creature power disc to look exactly like the one created by Aviva in the show.  Apparently, I have problems, because I couldn’t find any that fit all of these criteria.  So what did I do?  I then spent days learning basic photoshop from my husband to fill these needs (when I probably should have been making the creature power suits).  We ended up with the following for the party:

Many of the discs I printed and used at the party were discs created by other people from other blogs.  The ones I provide for distribution below will be different.  You may find the discs from these images on the following websites:

Once designed, the discs are extremely easy to assemble:

Be sure to stick the hook side of the Velcro stickers to the Creature Power Discs. Save the fuzzy side for your creature power suits. This ensures that the discs still have a chance of sticking to the vest even if the sticker comes off during play.
Now this is very important… Be sure to stick the hook side of the velcro stickers to the discs. Save the fuzzy side for your creature power suits. This ensures that the discs still have a chance of sticking to the vest even if the sticker comes off of it during play.

Since the party, I have spent many more days relearning photoshop and redoing much of my work.  These discs are provided to you below.  I recreated them because I did not want to use discs that belong to others- with one exception.  I am still using the creature power discs bunting I found on (see bottom 9 discs in Neat Discs Page 1).  I resized the PBS discs to fit more than 2 to a page and changed some colors for authenticity.  I believe they created very large discs and used the colors they did for a more attractive bunting.  I then used the PBS discs as a base for the black images I found in screenshots from the show that I then cleaned up a bit.

The top 3 on Page 1 and top 6 on Page 2 feature some of our favorites, and are from the show.  The bottom 6 on Page 2 are ones I made up.  Again, I used blank power discs and black clipart that I found after doing Google image searches.  I created them to get my oldest boy involved.  He is not quite as impressed by the world of Zoology as my other two.  Included here are the lesser-known creature power discs for Princess Unikitty, the kraken, a dragon, and (of course) the majestic pug.  The sloth and koala have been featured by the Wild Kratts, but these discs are not from the show. I don’t think Aviva even created a disc for the koala in “Koala Balloon,” which is a darn shame.  For a good laugh and to understand my point of view, see True Facts About Marsupials

Note:  While researching disc colors, I discovered that some of them have multiple color options because they were changed during the show for some reason (firefly comes to mind).  Please feel free to alter the colors if you are so inclined.

Below are a couple of pages with blank discs, so you can include your children’s favorites or make some funny ones yourself.  You don’t have to have access to Photoshop to do this.  Honestly, drawing the animals or gluing little black cutouts of animals would be fine.  This might be a bit too time-consuming, though.  I recommend simply opening these discs in a basic drawing program and then adding black clipart you’ve found and saved ahead of time from Google image searches.  I found that the Open Office drawing program works beautifully for this purpose.  After opening the blank discs:

  1. Insert> picture> from file
  2. Select your clipart file.
  3. Position the clipart over correct disc.
  4. Resize.  Just remember to hold down shift while resizing the clipart to keep the image’s correct dimensions.
  5. Repeat 11 more times.

You will spend far less time on the discs, because I’ve provided them for you. Please keep in mind that you still must get them printed, buy your materials, cut them out, and stick Velcro to them. I got my Velcro stickers from Staples where I had the disks printed.

Try not to spend too much time on the internet while searching for your clipart. The creature power suits will need a lot more of your precious time.  Also, the stickers were about $10. I believed this was worth it, but you might want to check for coupons or deals on Amazon.

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the blank power discs! I want to do a ‘Happy Birthday’ banner for my son’s 3rd birthday and I was starting to lose hope about finding a blank disc printable.

  2. This is so brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing these ideas and all the work you did! This is going to make my 5-year-old so happy at this birthday!

  3. This is amazing! Thank you so much for creating this! Question- do you know what the long fish on the 1st page is?

  4. Do you have a way to send the blank templates via email? I cannot save the pages to work on an invitation and costume for my daughter for next year.

    • I’m sorry to hear this! Please let me know the exact problem you’re having, so I might fix it for others as well. Which file type were you hoping to receive in email? Unfortunately, I’m unable to attach a file type other than pdfs to the website at this time. Right now the blank power discs are set up to simply add clip-art of your choice on top of the discs (letters, images, etc.). I use Windows, and this is how I get them to work for me:

      1.) right-click on the image
      2.) select “save image as…”
3.) open the file in a program of my choice (I go with the bare-bones drawing program from the free open office suite. You could also open it in word or another word processing program you may already own.)

If you wanted larger discs, I recommend using the bunting provided by PBS on their website at: Let me know if any of these work or if you’d hoped for a particular format, and we’ll figure this out!

  11. You’re creativity is awesome!!! …. and inspiring. I’ve been searching for creature power discs as I am not at all savvy with DIY graphic design. But when i try to print out the PDFs of the ones you posted, the sizing is all off so there’s 2 1/2 discs per page and they’re all cut off. Any ideas on how to fix?

  21. Thanks a ton for making your printables available for others to use. It saved me a lot of time and effort and needless to say, made my son’d day.

  22. Olivia, thanks for your hard work. I am using the creature power discs for my 7-year-old’s birthday party this weekend. It is so much fun to hear him talk about animal facts. Sometimes I think he has got to be making some of it up, then I do some research and he is always correct. If you haven’t seen it, you should watch True Facts about the Aye Aye, hilarious. This is one of the animals I was sure he was making up.
